McAllen Station drug seizure

Photo Caption RGV-1/2/3: McAllen Station agents seized 733 pounds of marijuana and a stolen vehicle on July 27, 2010 near Abram, TX, after deploying a Controlled Tire Deflation Device.

At about 11:30 p.m. agents observed a suspicious maroon Pontiac Grand Prix travel toward the Rio Grande at a high rate of speed from an area south of Peñitas. The vehicle returned soon after and accelerated east on U.S. Military Highway 281 and attempted to elude agents. As the vehicle approached Abram, an agent successfully deployed a tire deflation device and disabled the vehicle. After striking a mailbox the driver bailed out and fled. The vehicle, which had been reported stolen out of Palmview, was loaded with 20 bundles of marijuana valued at close to $600,000.

To report suspicious activity, contact the Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Sector's toll-free telephone number at 800-863-9382.
