EDINBURG, Texas – Border Patrol agents seize $90K worth of Xanax and Tramadol this weekend.

Yesterday, agents assigned to the Harlingen Border Patrol station working near San Pedro, Texas, arrested six subjects and seized two bundles of suspected narcotics. A seventh subject fled to Mexico. At the station, agents examined the smuggled contraband and discovered the bundles contained 9,000 pills of the prescription drug Farmapram (generic Xanax), which is a Schedule IV controlled substance.

On May 2, Border Patrol agents working at the Javier Vega, Jr. Checkpoint referred a Nissan Cube to the secondary inspection area following a K-9 alert. A search of the vehicle yielded 128 Xanax pills and 261 Tramadol pills. The two occupants of the vehicle were arrested and turned over to the Kenedy County Sheriff’s Office.

The public is encouraged to take a stand against crime in their communities and report suspicious activity at 800-863-9382.

Even with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, human smugglers continue to try these brazen attempts with zero regard for the lives they endanger nor to the health of the citizens of our great nation.  The U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Rio Grande Valley Sector will continue to safeguard the nation and community against these criminal elements.
