Agents Intercept a Cloned Service Van Driven by an Undocumented Individual

U.S Border Patrol agents observed a yellow van near the Highway 86 immigration checkpoint near Indio, Calif, exhibiting signs consistent with human smuggling.

SALTON CITY, Calif. – El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents seized a cloned restoration service van and arrested an undocumented individual, Friday afternoon. 

The incident occurred at approximately 1:45 p.m., June 10, when El Centro Sector agents observed a yellow van near the Highway 86 immigration checkpoint near Indio, Calif, exhibiting

signs consistent with human smuggling.  

Agents conducted a vehicle stop on the yellow 2002 Chevrolet van, during the initial approach of the vehicle, the driver identified himself with a fraudulent identification card and a fake uniform shirt. After a brief interview with the driver, it was determined that the driver was a Mexican citizen without the proper documentation to be in the U.S. legally. After a search of the vehicle agents discovered that the driver was the only occupant of the vehicle.    

The driver, a 28-year-old man, was transported to El Centro Processing Center where his entry was reinstated and will be federally charged. The vehicle was seized as per El Centro Sector guidelines.
