Agents Arrest Woman Suspected of Human Smuggling

SALTON CITY, Calif. – El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to the Indio Station arrested a woman suspected of smuggling two undocumented immigrants in the trunk of her vehicle at the Highway 86 checkpoint.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m., when Border Patrol agents encountered the woman, a 20-year-old United States citizen, driving a 2003 Dodge Neon at the checkpoint.

A Border Patrol canine detection team alerted to the vehicle.  Agents referred the woman to secondary for further investigation.  There, agents discovered two men, Mexican nationals, hidden inside the trunk of her vehicle.

The woman was placed under arrest and will be presented for prosecution for alien smuggling.

The men, ages 20 and 37-years-old, were transported to a Border Patrol station for processing.  Border Patrol seized the vehicle.

Last fiscal year, El Centro Sector  had 14,511 apprehensions.
