Agents Arrest Tucson Residents for Human Smuggling

TUCSON, Ariz. – Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents from the Nogales Station arrested two United States citizens from Tucson, Arizona for smuggling one illegal alien in the trunk of a car stopped at the Interstate 19 immigration checkpoint Thursday evening.

Agents referred the 23-year-old woman driver and 28-year-old female passenger of a 2006 Pontiac G6 to secondary for additional screening after a Border Patrol canine alerted to an odor it was trained to detect. When agents opened the trunk to investigate, they found a Mexican national concealed inside.

Agents arrested the two United States Citizens for human smuggling and seized the vehicle. The 23-year-old male Mexican national will be processed for immigration violations in accordance with Tucson Sector guidelines.
