Agents arrested the two men shortly after they entered into United States illegally near Naco and transported them to the Brian A. Terry Station for further processing. During processing, a records check identified one of the men, 33-year old Prudencio Barragan-Mendoza, as a Mexican national and active Sureño gang member. Records also showed that Barragan has a history of immigration violations.

Barragan will remain in custody pending immigration violation proceedings and could face additional charges for his affiliation with a violent street gang.

The other man arrested, a Mexican national, will also be processed for immigration violation.

All persons apprehended by the Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks using biometrics to ensure illegal immigrants with criminal histories are positively identified.
