Del Rio Sector Apprehends Convicted Sex Offender

Mexican National Previously Deported

DEL RIO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Eagle Pass South Station arrested a convicted sex offender who had been previously removed.

“An individual previously convicted of felony criminal sexual conduct was arrested and prevented from entering the country,” said Del Rio Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Matthew J. Hudak. “Our men and women continue to provide examples like this of the commitment we all have to protect our nation.”

On Jan. 23, Jose Guadalupe Salazar-Chaparro, 28, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico, was apprehended by Eagle Pass South Border Patrol agents near Eagle Pass, Texas. During processing, agents discovered that the subject was previously arrested for criminal sexual conduct in August of 2012 near Ann Arbor, Michigan. He was convicted in September of 2012 and was sentenced to nine months confinement. Salazar-Chaparro was deported to Mexico after completing his prison sentence.

Salazar-Chaparro faces a charge of illegal re-entry after deportation – 8 USC § 1326 – which carries a possible sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

The Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is part of the Joint Task Force-West South Texas Corridor, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations.
