“Del Rio Sector personnel are relentless in their vigilance to ensure the safety of our citizens and security of our nation,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Felix Chavez. “Because of their efforts, a dangerous criminal was stopped from gaining further access to American communities.”

On April 1, Easter Sunday, agents arrested Gustavo Hurtado-Juarez, 36, for entering the United States illegally through the Rio Grande River. Once at the station, records checks on the subject revealed that he is a registered sex offender in Tennessee, stemming from a conviction of aggravated statutory rape in Sumner County in 2010. The man was sentenced to nearly three years imprisonment in connection to this crime and subsequently deported.

Hurtado-Juarez faces prosecution for illegal re-entry into the United States – 8 USC § 1326 – which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment.

The Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is part of the Joint Task Force-West South Texas Corridor, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations. To report suspicious activity call the Del Rio Sector’s toll free number at 1-866-511-8727.
