DEL RIO, Texas – A U.S. Border Patrol agent, assigned to the Eagle Pass Station, captured an armed suspect who had robbed a local railroad worker of his vehicle.

“The U.S. Border Patrol’s primary mission is to secure the border,” said Acting Chief Matthew J. Hudak, Del Rio Sector. “Apprehending dangerous subjects is one of the many ways we help to keep our communities safe.”

Around 6:30 a.m., July 27, Border Patrol was contacted by Union Pacific Railroad dispatch, regarding a railroad employee whose service utility vehicle had been stolen at gunpoint. An agent, patrolling on Highway 277, spotted a man driving the orange Kubota utility truck and performed a vehicle stop. During the encounter, the agent disarmed the driver, who was found to be carrying a River Arms Model 1911 pistol.

The weapon and driver, a 32-year-old U.S. citizen, were turned over to the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office.
