This job series covers positions that apply professional accounting and auditing knowledge, standards, and principles when performing systematic examination and appraisal of financial records. Auditors analyze work related to the developing and executing of audit policies and programs and they also conduct performance audits or activities related to the detection of fraud, waste, and abuse within organizations.
Duties at CBP
Work within this job series requires an auditor to perform a variety of duties that involve planning, conducting, and reporting on a variety of complex audit assignments and reviewing accounting systems pertaining to various business operations, which includes import operations. Typical work assignments may include:
- Securing cooperation needed to coordinate, conduct, and complete assignments;
- Reviewing financial, importing, and other records;
- Determining compliance with agency regulations; and
- Preparing portions of audit reports which includes developing findings, citing applicable regulations, identifying problematic situations, and making recommendations.
