Aviation Enforcement Agent Duties

As an Aviation Enforcement Agent, you will be a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) profession. Typical assignments include:

  • Operating sophisticated airborne sensors to intercept, apprehend, or disrupt threats in the land, sea, and air domains as they move toward or across the borders of the United States;
  • Working in coordination with state, local and other federal law enforcement partners to maximize enforcement and surveillance efforts;
  • Executing warrants and seizing evidentiary items; and
  • Responding to law enforcement incidents as a tactical team member;

Typical Duties

You will serve in CBP’s Air and Marine Operations (AMO) as an Aviation Enforcement Agent, conducting airborne law enforcement operations involving the detection, interdiction, and apprehension of terrorists, terrorist weapons and other contraband, and persons from illegally entering or attacking the United States. Your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Operating radio and satellite communications, specialized radar equipment, and other systems to direct law enforcement personnel in making a successful interdiction or arrest;
  • Conducting aerial surveillance at the border or in the interior of the United States, using state-of-the-art thermal and optical sensor systems aboard AMO interdiction aircraft to gather evidence;
  • Generating information using investigative techniques, including interviewing, examining physical evidence, consulting law enforcement computer databases, or researching and analyzing flight plans;
  • Preparing reports identifying trends and patterns in aviation activities relating to smuggling; and
  • Serving warrants, making arrests or apprehensions, and testifying in court as needed.

Fixed-wing Aircraft Crewed by Aviation Enforcement Agents:

Guardian Unmanned Aircraft System Maritime Variant Predator B: The Guardian, the maritime variant of the Predator B unmanned aircraft system, is used for maritime patrol and domain awareness.
 
Multi-Role Enforcement Aircraft: The Multi-Role Enforcement Super King Air 350ER (MEA), is a medium-range, fixed-wing, twin turboprop aircraft used to conduct aerial patrol and surveillance over land and water, and for enforcement relocation of personnel and equipment.
 
P-3 Aircraft: P-3 Airborne Early Warning and Long Range Tracker aircraft are high-endurance, all-weather, tactical turbo-prop aircraft, which are used primarily for long-range aerial patrols and surveillance along the U.S. border and in drug Transit Zones in Central and South America.
 
PC-12: The PC-12 is a single-engine, turbo-prop, fixed-wing aircraft that combines the slow-speed capability of a C- 210 with the payload and high-speed capabilities of a B-200 King Air.
 
King Air 200 and C-12C: The King Air 200 and C-12C aircraft are medium-range, fixed-wing, twin turboprop aircraft used to conduct investigative and interdiction missions such as aerial patrol, prisoner transport and surveillance, and can be also used to insert agents into otherwise inaccessible terrain.
 
C-550 Citation: The C-550 Citation aircraft are medium range, fixed-wing, all-weather tactical jets used to intercept and track airborne drug smugglers, and to enforce airspace security over critical venues, such as presidential inaugurations.
 
DHC-8: The DHC-8 is a fixed-wing, medium-range multi-role patrol aircraft equipped with multimode radar and electro-optical/infrared sensors that detect and monitor maritime and surface targets.
 
C-206/210: C-206/210 aircrafts are short-range, piston-powered light enforcement aircraft used to support investigative and enforcement efforts by conducting surveillance, tracking, and reconnaissance.
 
Unmanned Aircraft System MQ-9 Predator B: The Predator B aircraft system is used to further enhance operational capabilities and increase domain awareness on the Southern and Northern borders of the United States.
 

 

Rotary-wing Aircraft crewed by Aviation Enforcement Agents:

UH-60: The UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter is a medium-range, all weather, rotary-wing tactical aircraft used to protect the American public from terrorism and drug smuggling and to enforce airspace security over critical venues.
 
UH-1N: The UH-1N helicopter is a medium- range, twin-engine, rotary-wing, utility aircraft used to perform a wide variety of tactical and utility missions along the border.
 
AS350 A- Star: The AS350 A-Star helicopter is a short-range, turbine-powered, rotary-wing aircraft used to perform missions such as aerial patrol and surveillance of stationary missions or moving targets.
 
Huey II: The UH-1N Huey II helicopter is a medium- range, twin-engine, rotary-wing, utility aircraft used to perform a wide variety of tactical and utility missions along the border.
 
EC120: The EC120 helicopter is a medium-range, turbine-powered, rotary-wing aircraft primarily used as a light observation helicopter.
 
S-76: The S-76 helicopter is a medium-range, tactical apprehension, rotary-wing aircraft, used to protect the American public from threats of terrorism, drug smuggling, and to enforce airspace security over critical venues.
