CBPO Resume Aid

A resume in English is required. It must contain your full legal name, address, phone number, complete work history, a detailed description of your duties, the dates you performed those duties (MM/DD/YY), as well as your hours worked per week. If you are a current or former federal employee, please include your salary, pay scale and pay grade information. Note: Most applicants are screened out for insufficient information on their resume.

How to Document Your Qualifications for the GL-5 Grade Level:

  1. Education: You must provide copies of transcripts that show a four year course of study (120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours above high school) in any field leading to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (or expect to complete within nine months from the closing date of the announcement). Transcripts from all colleges or universities attended are required. Official transcripts are preferred but will accept unofficial at the time of application. Official transcripts are required upon receipt of a final offer of employment.

    Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet federal qualifications requirements if you can show that your foreign education is comparable to education received in accredited educational institutions in the U.S. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence with your application.   2. Experience: Three years of full-time specialized work experience (35+ hours per week), one year which is equivalent to the GS-4 (part time work will be prorated) that shows you have:
     
    1. the ability to meet and deal with people; AND
    2. the ability to learn and apply a body of facts

    You must provide detailed examples of your work experience that address the three items listed above. You must respond to each part with specific examples of what you have actually done. Do not use job descriptions or training. Make sure to include all of your work experience on your resume, even if you feel that it does not address the items. Be sure to include hours per week.

  3. Combination of Education and Experience: If you do not qualify based on education or experience, you may be able to qualify based on a combination of your experience and education. To determine the percentage of qualifying experience, divide the months of experience by 36 and multiply by 100. To determine your percentage of qualifying education, divide the number of undergraduate semester hours by 120, or undergraduate quarter hours by 180 and multiply by 100. Add the experience and education percentages together. You must have 100% qualifying experience and or education to qualify using a combination of education and/or experience.

    Example: An applicant has 25 months of full-time qualifying experience, and 42 semester hours of post high school education. Experience: 25 months divided by 36 months = 0.694 Education: 42 semester hours divided by 120 semester hours = 0.35 Combine: 0.69 (from experience) + 0.35 (from education) = 1.04 or 104%

  1. Education: You must provide transcripts that show a bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement or one full year of graduate level education in a field of study related to law enforcement (e.g., criminal justice, homeland security, justice studies, law enforcement, courts and judicial systems, forensic technology, forensic psychology, or corrections and rehabilitation) from an accredited college or university within 9 months from the closing date of this announcement; OR

    One full year of graduate level education in a field of study related to law enforcement (e.g., criminal justice, homeland security, justice studies, law enforcement, courts and judicial systems, forensic technology, forensic psychology, corrections and rehabilitation) from an accredited or college or university.

    2. the ability to collect, develop, and evaluate facts, evidence, and pertinent data in assessing compliance with, or in violation(s) of laws, rules, or regulations.

    Example: An applicant has 9 months of full-time qualifying experience and 9 semester hours of graduate education.
    Experience: 9 months ÷ 12 months = 0.75; 0.75 x 100 = 75%
    Education: 9 semester hours ÷ 18 semester hours = 0.50; 0.50 x 100 = 50%
    75% (from experience) + 50% (from education) = 125%

Volunteer Service With National Service Programs

National Service Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
