Physical Fitness Test - 2 (PFT-2) Frequently Asked Questions

When will I be contacted for the PFT-2?

The Physical Fitness Test - 2 (PFT-2) will take place after you've successfully completed all portions of the pre-employment process, and have been made a final offer for employment with CBP.

Your PFT-2 will take place no more than 30 days before your entrance on duty (EOD) date.

How do I schedule the PFT-2?

The PFT-2 will be scheduled for you based on the PFT-2 location you selected when you applied for the position. A letter will be sent to you by email including the date, time, location, a phone number for a Point of Contact at the testing site, and other information regarding the PFT-2.

Please note that site availability is limited; therefore, only certain dates and times will be available.  Dates and times of the PFT-2 are also subject to proctor availability, and may be changed.  If a change occurs after you have been scheduled for the PFT-2, someone will contact you.

If you receive your letter by email, and have any questions you can contact the Customs and Border Protection Applicant Contact Center at 833-405-8051 or CBPApplicantContactCenter@cbp.dhs.gov;

Hours of Operation: M-F, 7am-7pm ET.

Where will I take the PFT-2?

Your PFT-2 will be scheduled based on the preferred PFT-2 location you selected when you applied for the position.  You may change your preferred PFT-2 location at any time.  Please note that travel to and from the PFT-2 testing site is at your own expense.

How long should I plan to be at the facility for this appointment?

The length of time you will be at the testing site will depend on a variety of factors, such as how many other candidates are testing that day, weather, etc.  The MHC usually recommends that candidates plan to be at the testing site for several hours on the day of their scheduled PFT-2

What do I need to bring?

Please be dressed accordingly when arriving to your PFT-2 (i.e., gym shorts; sweatpants; t-shirt; athletic shoes; sweat socks; and any other athletic support garments worn while working out, such as knee braces, etc.).  You should also dress accordingly with regard to the current weather conditions (layers in cold conditions, or loose-fitting and breathable materials in warmer conditions).

Bring a towel and bottled water, as these items will not be furnished at the testing site.

Use of headsets, radios, and other electronic devised are not permitted during the testing.

Bring a government-issued ID, e.g. driver's license, passport, military identification card, etc.  Please note that several of our CBP PFT-2 testing sites require a form of ID that is compliant with the REAL ID Act.  If the state where you reside is listed as non-compliant, you will need to bring another form of ID with you to the testing site.  To find out if your state is listed as non-compliant, refer to the link below.

The following is a link that will provide more information on the REAL ID Act:  www.dhs.gov/secure-drivers-licenses

How will I be notified of my result?

If you successfully complete the requirements for each component of the PFT-2, the proctor administering the test will be able to notify you that you've passed.  Once the MHC receives and processes this result, you'll receive your final offer letter for the position outlining your reporting instructions.

If you fail to participate in a component of the PFT-2, the test will be stopped and the proctor administering the test will notify you that you've failed.  Once the MHC receives and processes this result, you'll receive an email notification stating that your tentative offer for the position has been withdrawn, and you will not report for duty.

What happens if I fail to participate in the PFT-2?

If you fail to participate in the PFT-2, your tentative offer will be withdrawn and you will need to reapply.  The MHC will send you an email notification once the result has been processed.

If I fail to participate in the PFT-2, how long do I have to wait to reapply?

A candidate may reapply as soon as there is an open vacancy on USAJobs.gov for the position, and if the candidate meets all requirements outlined in the announcement.

Who do I contact if I have questions concerning the PFT-2?

Any questions concerning the PFT-2 can be directed to the Customs and Border Protection Applicant Contact Center at 833-405-8051 or
