
Office of Chief Counsel Attorney Jacob A. Raines was attending the U.S. Customs and Border Protection New Attorney Enforcement Training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, Georgia when he was found unresponsive while on-duty. FLETC Leadership discovered Mr. Raines in front of Building 94, where they initiated CPR and contacted emergency response personnel. Mr. Raines was transported to the Southeast Georgia Health Systems Brunswick Hospital where he was pronounced deceased by medical personnel. Medical assessment indicated Mr. Raines died from a pulmonary embolism caused by the air travel from his duty location in Edinburg, Texas to FLETC in Glynco.
Attorney Raines had 15 years of Federal Service, previously serving with Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Social Security Administration. Mr. Raines was a veteran of the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Senior Airman, as a flying Crew Chief. He was awarded the Air Force Achievement Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.
Attorney Raines is survived by his mother, father, and sister.
