Border Patrol Agents Arrest Man with Active Warrant and Recover a Stolen Vehicle at Checkpoint

SALTON SEA, Calif.El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents arrested a man and woman in a stolen vehicle Saturday evening.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:04 p.m., when a man driving a white GMC Yukon and his female passenger approached the Highway 86 checkpoint. Agents directed the truck to enter the secondary inspection area for further investigation.

During their inspection, a Border Patrol K-9 detection team alerted to the vehicle and a search was conducted. Agents discovered a white crystal like substance and drug paraphernalia inside the center console as well as a jar with a green leafy substance. The driver claimed ownership of the suspected narcotics and paraphernalia. The woman claimed ownership of the green leafy substance as well as admitted to having illegal narcotics stashed inside her boot. The suspected narcotics found in in the center console and boot tested positive for the characteristics of methamphetamine. The green leafy substance tested positive for the characteristics of marijuana.

Additionally, agents determined that the vehicle was reported stolen from the city of Calexico. Agents arrested both individuals and held them for further processing. 

Records checks revealed that the man has an active warrant for “Possession of Stolen Property” and “Vandalism” out of Kern County. The Kern County Sherriff’s Office will extradite the man.

The total weight of the methamphetamine found in the center console was approximately 35.5 grams with an estimated value of $1,775. The total weight of the methamphetamine found on the woman was approximately 10.7 grams with an estimated value of $535. The total weight of the marijuana was approximately 3.4 grams with an estimated value of $85.

El Centro Sector turned over the driver, a 26-year-old U.S. citizen and the vehicle to the Imperial County Sherriff’s Department. The woman, a 31-year-old U.S. citizen was booked and released for simple possession. The narcotics were seized by El Centro Sector for destruction.
