Travel Channel's 'Border Rico' Features CBP’s Activities in Caribbean

Release Date:
January 27, 2014

A new Travel Channel reality series, “Border Rico,” begins January 28 and takes an in-depth look at efforts to secure the challenging border on the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico. The show is scheduled to air Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

The show features a wide-ranging overview of tactics used by Customs and Border Protection and its Department of Homeland Security partners in preventing illegal immigration and smuggling on the shores of this U.S. territory. The show demonstrates the coordinated efforts of federal and local law enforcement in this unusual gateway to the U.S.

The pilot is set for 10 p.m. January 28 and is the first of back-to-back episodes of the 30-minute show. The first is called “The Sting.” The producers describe the action: “A deal is offered to a drug smuggler in the premiere of this reality series, which follows agents and officers that protect the Puerto Rican border of the U.S.” At 10:30 comes “Stranded: Reports of illegal immigrants on a desert island are investigated by the Coast Guard; customs agents make an unexpected discovery while raiding the home of a notorious gun-dealer.”

Six more shows will follow on Tuesdays and Wednesday nights through February 5.
