Acting Commissioner Encourages Innovation, Co-Creation at Boston Cargo Symposium

Acting Commissioner Thomas S. Winkowski and former U.S. Customs Commissioner George Weise participated on a Nov. 7 panel at the Northeast Cargo Symposium in Boston, hosted by the Coalition of New England Companies for Trade, known as CONECT.

Winkowski spoke of the challenges facing the global trade arena, the need to move forward through these challenges, and how CBP’s innovative ways of processing cargo are transforming trade. He also expressed the need for the trade community to continue to engage with CBP in co-creating transformation processes and promoted the Centers of Excellence and Expertise as a major milestone. The acting commissioner identified exports as a new frontier with great opportunities to establish international partnerships and harmonize regulatory requirements.

In his closing remarks, Winkowski reinforced the importance of government and stakeholders reaching compromise and common-ground solutions. He expressed how CBP is open to new ideas and welcomes CONECT’s participation in new initiatives.
