Border Patrol Arrests Two for Illegal Possession of Shotgun and Outstanding Warrant

Release Date:
August 6, 2014

SAN DIEGO — U.S. Border Patrol agents working at the Interstate 8 checkpoint started the month with an event leading to two arrests: a prohibited possessor with a shotgun and the subject of an outstanding warrant.

A 1995 Dodge Ram approached the checkpoint at approximately 3:00 Friday morning.  A Border Patrol K-9 alerted to the vehicle and the 47-year-old United States citizen driver was told to pull over into the secondary inspection area.  A search of his vehicle yielded a small plastic bag with methamphetamine residue and a 12-gauge shotgun concealed within storage boxes in the bed of the truck.  A second plastic bag with methamphetamine residue was found concealed within a screwdriver in the cab of the truck.

The passenger, a 48-year-old female United States citizen, initially gave an alias for which no records could be found.  Further investigation yielded her true real name and records checks showed an outstanding felony warrant.

Due to the driver’s criminal history, he was federally charged as a felon in possession of a weapon and turned over to ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations for further prosecution.

The passenger was turned over to the San Diego Sheriff’s Department for further prosecution under her felony warrant.
