CBP Officers Find 260 Packages of Pot in Mom's SUV

DOUGLAS, Ariz. – A 30-year-old female Mexican national, traveling with her 35-month-old daughter, was arrested Monday for attempting to smuggle more than 310 pounds of marijuana through the Port of Douglas.CBP officers assigned to the Port of Douglas locate 310 pounds of marijuana after noticing tampering with the smuggling vehicle's fuel tank.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers referred Alma Angelina Martinez-Mendoza of Sonora, Mexico for a search of her 1995 Chevrolet Blazer an initial inspection revealed tampering with the vehicle’s fuel tank.

During the follow-on inspection, officers found and removed 260 packages of marijuana stashed throughout the vehicle. The marijuana, worth more than $155,000, and vehicle were seized. Martinez was referred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations. Her daughter was turned over to the father.
