BUFFALO, N.Y. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Officers announced today an upcoming change in the NEXUS lane availability at the Rainbow Bridge for U.S. bound NEXUS traffic. This change will be effective June 30.
Based on expanding NEXUS lane usage at the Whirlpool Bridge, the Rainbow Bridge will no longer designate a NEXUS only lane, but will continue to process travelers with NEXUS cards at all open lanes. When traveling across the border in Niagara Falls, NEXUS participants are urged to consider using the Whirlpool Bridge which is dedicated to NEXUS only traffic.
Cross-border travelers are encouraged to participate in the NEXUS program. NEXUS allows pre-screened, low-risk travelers to proceed with little or no delay into the United States and Canada. Application forms are available on the Canada Border Services Agency website and travelers can also apply online at the CBP Global Online Enrollment System. Additionally, NEXUS information is available toll-free at 1-866-NEXUS 26 (1-866-639-8726).
NEXUS members are also eligible to expedite their domestic travels by using TSA’s pre-check trusted traveler security screening lines and security screening lines at major Canadian airports.
Trusted Traveler programs, such as NEXUS, help expedite international trade and travel, while allowing CBP to better focus our limited resources and examination efforts on higher-risk passengers and cargo, which helps to ensure the security and integrity of our borders.
The Port of Buffalo continuously monitors NEXUS lane usage and employs active lane management to meet traffic demands and ensure that NEXUS lanes have the shortest average wait time.
