El Centro Sector Border Patrol Intercepts Smuggling Attempt Seizing $261,000 of Methamphetamine

PALM DESERT, Calif. – Wednesday, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to the Indio Station arrested a suspected narcotics smuggler and seized more than 26 pounds of methamphetamine concealed within a vehicle.

The incident occurred at approximately 8 a.m., when Border Patrol agents stopped a 62-year-old man driving a maroon 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup on Interstate 10 near the Bob Hope Drive exit.

A Border Patrol Canine Detection Team alerted to the vehicle and the vehicle was transported to the Indio Station for further inspection.

During the inspection, agents discovered 20 vacuum sealed packages of methamphetamine hidden within a false wall constructed behind the passenger side seat of the vehicle.  The methamphetamine had a combined weight of 26.1 pounds with an estimated street value of $261,000. 

The man, vehicle, and methamphetamine were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation.
