CALEXICO, Calif. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Calexico downtown port of entry Sunday seized approximately $17,000 worth of methamphetamine, concealed on the body of a pedestrian border crosser.
On June 8, at about 10 a.m., a CBP officer encountered a 21-year-old female U.S. citizen after she arrived at the port as a pedestrian. The officer noticed anomalies with the woman’s clothing, and referred her for further examination.
During the inspection, officers discovered two wrapped packages of methamphetamine strapped to the woman’s abdomen, concealed under layers of clothing.
The narcotics yielded a total weight of almost three pounds.
The woman, a resident of Tijuana, Baja California, was turned over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigation agents for further processing, and was later transported to the Imperial County Jail to await arraignment.
CBP seized the narcotics.
