CBP Officers Find Marijuana in Jalapeno Shipment

NOGALES, Ariz. — A 50-year-old truck driver was arrested Wednesday at the Port of Nogales for attempting to smuggle more than 2,400 pounds of marijuana into the United States.  

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Mariposa cargo facility referred a Mexican national for additional inspection of the tractor-trailer he was driving. After a CBP narcotics detection canine alerted to the presence of drugs in the trailer, officers found 105 bales of marijuana, worth more than $1.2 million, hidden among a shipment of jalapenos.

The drugs and truck were processed for seizure. The driver was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.CBP officers assigned to the Port of Nogales seized 105 bales of marijuana that was co-mingled with a shipment of jalapeno peppers.
