CBP Officers Discover Almost $236,000 Worth of Methamphetamine Hidden in Vehicle

CALEXICO, Calif. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Calexico downtown port of entry Thursday intercepted approximately $236,000 worth of methamphetamine concealed inside the rocker panels of a vehicle.

The incident occurred at about 11:00 a.m. on April 17, when a canine team screening vehicles alerted to a 2008 Chrysler Sebring as the male driver and female passenger waited in line for inspection.  A CBP officer inspected the vehicle and detected anomalies with the passenger side rocker panel.  Both driver and passenger were escorted for further examination.CBP officers at the Calexico West port of entry discovered 36 pounds of methamphetamine in all four rocker panels of the car.

Officers searched the vehicle and discovered 22 wrapped packages of methamphetamine concealed inside all four rocker panels of the vehicle. The weight of the narcotics was 36 pounds.

The driver, a 25-year-old Mexican citizen, and passenger, a 22-year-old U.S. citizen, were turned over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations agents for further processing.

CBP placed an immigration hold on the driver, to initiate removal from the U.S. at the conclusion of his criminal proceedings.

CBP seized the vehicle and the narcotics.
