Border Patrol Agents Arrest Convicted Sex Offender - Mexican Subject Previously Deported

DEL RIO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Del Rio Station apprehended a convicted sex offender on Wednesday.  

Agents patrolling near Del Rio encountered David Gomez-Juarez, 31, an undocumented immigrant from Guanajuato, Mexico. During processing, agents discovered that Gomez-Juarez had been previously deported from the United States and is a convicted sex offender. A criminal records check revealed Gomez-Juarez was convicted in 2010 in Dallas for Sexual Assault of a Child, and was sentenced to five years of incarceration.

Gomez-Juarez faces a charge of illegal entry - 8 USC 1326 - and his prior order of removal will be reinstated.

The Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is part of the South Texas Campaign, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations. So far during Fiscal Year 2014, which began Oct. 1, 2013, Del Rio Sector agents have apprehended 17 sex offenders. During FY13, Del Rio Sector agents apprehended 18 previously deported sex offenders.  Compared to the previous fiscal year to date, sex offender arrests are on a rise in the Del Rio Sector area of responsibility.
