CBP Opens Sixth Global Entry Enrollment Center in Texas

Release Date
Fri, 03/08/2013

AUSTIN, TEXAS—U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), will open its 35th Global Entry Enrollment Center at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA) March 10 as CBP officers begin conducting interviews for Global Entry applicants.

"Global Entry Enrollment Centers provide the final piece of the Global Entry application process, including collecting the required biometrics, that allow members to use the automated, self-service kiosks," said Houston CBP Acting Director of Field Operations Lynn Fallik.

While ABIA does not have the Global Entry kiosks, beginning March 19 Global Entry members flying through the airport will be able to take advantage of the TSA PreCheck program as well as use the GE kiosks at more than 40 other international airports when arriving to the U.S.

Travelers interested in becoming Global Entry members must apply online at globalentry.gov, where they can now select ABIA Global Entry Enrollment Center for their interview.

Applications for enrollment into the program are available through the Global Online Enrollment System (GOES) at globalentry.gov. The Global Entry application process consists of the following three steps for all applicants:

  • Completion and submission of an on-line application through GOES, along with payment of a non-refundable $100 application fee for five-year membership.
  • Schedule an appointment within 30 days from the date of the online approval notice. (The actual appointment must be within 90 days of the date of the online approval notice.)
  • Undergo a background check, interview with a CBP officer at a Global Entry Enrollment Center, and provide biometric information, e.g., fingerprint scan.

There are many benefits to becoming a Global Entry member including:

  • No queuing for passport control checks;
  • No paper customs declaration form;
  • Global Entry membership can be accessed at many of the leading U.S. airports;
  • Expedited processing (kiosk usage can take as little as 45 seconds);
  • No minimum number of international trips required to qualify for the Global Entry program.

Global Entry is open to U.S. citizens, U.S. legal permanent residents, and Mexican nationals. The program is also available to citizens of the Netherlands, who are enrolled in the Dutch Privium program, and citizens of the Republic of Korea enrolled in the Korean SES program. In addition, Canadian citizens and residents enrolled in the NEXUS program may use the Global Entry kiosks. Members of the CBP Trusted Traveler program, SENTRI, who are U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents, can also use the Global Entry kiosks.

This enrollment center will bring the total number of Global Entry Enrollment Centers in Texas up to six. There are currently three in Houston, one in Dallas, and one in San Antonio. As of February 25, there are more than 570,000 members enrolled in Global Entry.
