U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announces that a Final Supplemental Environmental Assessment (SEA) and associated Final Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) addressing the proposed establishment of a 6-acre construction staging/laydown area adjacent to the proposed Traffic Checkpoint (TCP) and temporarily grading of approximately 8 acres within an existing gas pipeline right-of-way (ROW) adjacent to the proposed TCP are now available for public review.
Construction of the proposed TCP was previously assessed in the June 2014 Environmental Assessment (EA) titled Final Environmental Assessment for the Proposed Construction, Operation, and Maintenance of the U.S. Border Patrol Falfurrias Station Traffic Checkpoint.
The Final SEA documents a review of the potential environmental and socioeconomic effects associated with the proposed action. Based on the final SEA and the mitigation measures to be implemented, the project would not have a significant adverse effect on the environment and further analysis is not required. Therefore, a FONSI was issued and an Environmental Impact Statement is not required.
