It is through the recollections of our families, friends, and colleagues that we will always remember, Sept. 11, 2001. The tragic events of 9/11 forever changed America. They also forever changed us.
As we approach the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, we are reminded of the sacrifice, heroism, and humanity we all experienced that Tuesday morning, including the weeks and months which followed. For some of us, particularly those who lived through and responded to the tragedy first hand, the pain is still fresh. Without question their stories and our shared experiences are both moving and inspiring.
Over the next several months, and even reaching beyond the tenth anniversary of Sept. 11, CBP will be collecting and featuring the remembrances of our employees and retirees. These stories commemorate moments of remembrance and reflection and shed light on why CBP's mission is so important.
Are you a CBP employee or retiree with a 9/11 story to share? Or a memento you wish to tell us about? Please let us know or contact us for more information at CBPHistory@dhs.gov. Current CBP employees can find more information on CBPnet, the agency's intranet site.
